1881 Eating House

Brand Identity / Naming / Hospitality Design

A Historic Brand for Modern Dining

Brand identity and naming created for 1881, an upscale restaurant located inside Saint Paul’s historic Union Depot train station. The name references the founding year of both Union Depot and the restaurant’s owners, Lake Elmo Inn, while the later addition of “Eating House” nods to the language and dining culture of early rail travel.

Inspired by historic station signage, typography, and architectural details throughout Union Depot, the identity was designed to feel elegant, timeless, and connected to the building’s history. The project extended across signage, menus, digital campaigns, promotional materials, and environmental applications throughout the restaurant space.
